Top hotels with waterparks in Spain for your family holiday.

As a child I remember loving waterparks and now that our children are growing our type of holidays are changing as is the things we do on them. We took them to their first waterpark last year during our summer in Spain and they had the best time. Better than we anticipated. A holiday with an onsite waterpark would be pretty perfect for them, as I am sure it would most kids. They get to spend the whole day in and out of the water swimming with the added bonus of flumes and fun. There are loads of great hotels with waterparks across Europe but for the purpose of this post I have narrowed down my research to hotels with waterparks in Spain, from the Costa Brava to the Costa del Sol there is something for everyone.

PortAventura World is a large resort that houses a theme park, Ferrari Land and the Caribe Aquatic Park.  The water park itself has something for everyone. From the big daredevil slides for big kids to smaller child friendly slides and splash areas for the smallest guests. There is even an indoor junior section should the sun be too much or not enough to keep your little ones warm when wet. It houses a man made beach, wave pool and relaxing water bed area. You’ll also find plenty of places to eat, drink and shop.

Along with the waterpark PortaAventura theme park is known to be one of Spain’s most iconic theme parks. With 6 different worlds, rides for all ages, restaurants and shows.

One of the newer additions to PortAventura is Ferrari Land. Here you can enjoy rides, the latest technology with attractions and experiences and get to find out all about the legendary brand that is Ferrari, all whilst having fun. Ferrari land offers rides, kids areas, themed areas, experiences, shows and dining.

PortAventura has 6 different types of accommodation ranging from 4 to 5 star. You can even bring your caravan. The hotels boasts themed rooms, unlimited park access, 1 day access to Ferrari Land, discounted entry to the water park, swimmingly pools and dining options. Accommodation available ranges from single rooms to family bungalows. Different hotels offer different perks and benefits so be sure to look closely at what each hotel has to offer before deciding.

PortAventura is in Spain’s Costa Dorada region, about an hour from Barcelona airport, 10 minutes from the popular holiday resort of Salou and 15 minutes from neighbouring Cambrils and Tarragona. It is easily accessible by bus for those of you holidaying in the Salou region.

Siam Park Tenerife.

Of course no article about hotels with waterparks in Spain is complete without mentioning the renowned Siam Park.  Having won Trip Advisors travellers choice award for the 5th year in a row, it is arguably one of the best waterparks Spain, or even Europe has to offer. Siam Park is a Thai themed super park packed full of rides for all ages and all thrill levels. You won’t be disappointed. When not racing down shoots you can eat in the Thai style floating market or relax in a family cabana or champagne club. You know where you’ll find me.

The only draw back is there is no onsite hotel bur holiday packages can be brought for nearby hotels that include park access. These include the Compostela Beach Golf Apartments, which is a 5 minute drive from the hotel and the Parque Cristolbel Bungalows. Both of these are available through First Choice so come with All Inclusive as standard.

Don’t forget…

…by booking water park holidays chances are you will be spending all day in and out of the water. When keeping cool in the water it can make it easy to forget the strength of the sun. We have all done it, been in and out of the pool or the sea and not topped up our sun cream enough leaving us a little too sun kissed. Be sure to pack plenty of good quality sun cream, don’t forget to apply it and if possible opt for sun protecting swimwear for the little ones. I swear by the sun safe swimwear in the height of summer when abroad with my two blonde water babies.

Water parks have to work hard to keep water levels clean and as such chlorine levels can be quite high, don’t forget to pack the goggles for those little sensitive eyes. Grumpy kids make grumpy parents after all.

For us when travelling to resorts we know will involve a lot of swimming we also come prepared with plenty of water accessories from goggles to swim toys and games. We have spent hours retrieving hoops and sinking sticks from the bottom of pools. I also always make sure we have some sort of floatation or swimming aid with us as although my eldest can swim a full day of swimming or activities can be very tiring. Toward the end of a busy day those little arms and legs get tired so a little help to keep her above water can sometimes be needed. Whether she likes to admit it or not. offer everything for your swimming needs, from the latest high quality branded UV protecting swimwear and colourful costumes to a large variety of swimming accessories to keep your little ones busy and safe in the pool.

Oh and be sure to check out the height requirements for some of the rides. The last thing you want is disappointed faces unable to ride the big slides. Having been gifted with two very small children I normally check ahead for height requirements. I can then forewarn my littlest that he may not be able to go on everything his *marginally* taller sister goes on.

And finally…

Booking your family holiday can be expensive. Don’t rule out last minute holidays (see the bargain we got, booking last minute here). Consider packages, perhaps all inclusive holidays might be worth considering, especially with hungry and thirsty young kids who require at least one ice cream a day. Shop around, most holidays companies offer holiday deals including free child places, inclusive airport transfers and/or free room upgrades. Always be sure to book your holiday through companies that are ATOL protected with that all important ATOL certificate for peace of mind.

Be sure on your choice. Use tools such as trip advisor to read reviews and get an idea of the facilities on offer and amenities within close proximity. Do you like to be near the main towns? Do you like exclusive holidays beach holidays? Do you need a kitchenette? A gym? A heated pool? Kids club? Mini disco? You can get so much travel advice from forums of experienced guests they are a resource not be overlooked.

Have you been to any of the above hotels with waterparks in Spain? Perhaps you can offer up some advice about other hotels with waterparks? I would love to hear from you.
