I’ve never really been one for Christmas, being a bit of scrooge but if there is one thing that I do love, that I look forward to and probably over indulge in, I know surprise surprise, it is the mulled wine. I love going to the Christmas markets and partaking in an overpriced mulled wine and a Frankfurter, it is one of my favourite Yule time activities.
So whenever we have Christmas festivities at our house the drink of choice is of course the mulled wine. I love the smell that fills your house and the warm spice that heats your throat. Over the years I have been trailing different methods and this year it is the turn of Fortnum and Mason ‘s Christmas Mulled Wine Spice Bag. The ingredients are Cinnamon, Orange Peel, Allspice and Cloves, all of which are wrapped in muslins. The bag alone smells divine. So festive.
So for the perfect mulled wine you simply need:
1/2 lire of water
1 Fortnum and Mason spice bag
1 litre of the good stuff, red wine
1/2 litre of orange juice.
1 (or two) measures of brandy
Sugar to taste.
It’s very simple, bring the water and spice bag to the boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
Add the red wine, orange juice, brand and sugar.
Gently heat to serving temperature – be careful not to boil.
Simply serve with a slice of orange or lemon.
It couldn’t be more simple or delicious. It’s the perfect winter warmer on these cold evenings.
I received the bag as part of a Christmas hamper from Jet 2. I have never been the recipient of a Christmas hamper and I really feel like I have missed out. This hamper was amazing as not only did it include this wonderful spice bag but all of these goodies…
That is hot chocolate (the proper stuff you make with milk), fudge (which I can confirm is incredibly sweet), shortbread (so buttery and soo good), advent calendar (yes I am waiting until the first, probably), mince pies, hot water bottle (hurrah), Christmas candle (smells amazing), articulate for kids (the adults will probably play it, badly), bake your own gingerbread house (wish us luck), craft your own Christmas (yay…crafts…), christmas crackers (well why not), christmas ribbon (expect well wrapped gifts from me), crayons (always a hit in this house) there really is something for everyone.
I feel genuinely made up to have received this hamper and if this is the feeling they give then perhaps I’ll be making my own with this one as inspiration for gifts this Christmas. Thank you Jet 2.
Jet 2 have a Christmas competition running, everyday from the 1st – 26th December you could be in with a chance of winning a Jet 2 Holiday. All you have to do is correctly answer a holiday themed question, and you’ll be entered into the free prize draw. You can pre- register from the 29th and then enter HERE. As someone who has flown with Jet 2 before I will certainly be entering. Their slogan of being the friendly airline, is spot on. Mr T and I couldn’t get over the service we received when we flew with them, so much so I wrote about it here.
So take 5 minutes and head on over for the chance of winning – what do you have to loose?
