When it comes to packing I am sure half of my case is weighed down by cosmetics, all the lotions and potions I use daily tend to come away with me. This is fine, kind of, when you travel with a hold bag, which we.always.do as we are yet to embark on a child free getaway allowing us to be one of the smug carry-on-bag-only travellers. You’ll find me next to two prams, two car seats, two suitcases, two toddlers and a disgruntled Mr Tammy knocking people out the way. Really. That’s a story for another day.
Anyway for those of you who, like me, travel with all the things you’ll be familiar with ‘is my suitcase over 20kg’ stress. Every damn time we fly I give myself an embolism over the weight and I can possibly reduce the weight of our case.
So here it is a list of beauty travel essentials that can either save you space and weight in your hold bag or fit the legal requirement to be under 100ml and thus fitting smugly into your smug-carry-on-bag. Do I sound bitter?
I have waxed lyrical about the dark circles that haunt my eyes. When we fly we often fly early meaning 3am starts are common, really complimenting those dark circles of mine. Despite a full face of make up a full and long day of travelling can really take it’s toll so this cover up from Know Cosmetics is my latest attempt at keeping the dark circles at bay. It’s application is similar to the infamous touche éclat and the coverage is just as good. It’s compact and lightweight and perfect for popping in your handbag.
Simple Micellar Cleansing Wipes
Obviously there are other brands available but I tend to use Simple as I find it best for my sensitive skin. I use a face wipe as part of my skincare routine at home (along with lots of other things) but think they are particularly handy when travelling. They fit nicely into your luggage, are a great way to remove make up and freshen up.
Big bottles of Shampoo and Conditioner are not only heavy but unless they are wrapped in about 7 carrier bags they will somehow open up and you will have a Ross from friends style shampoo explosion. We’ve all been there. I used to buy cheap S&C once we had arrived or use the complimentary ones however I found these really dried out my hair and weren’t ideal for a prolonged use. I am now all about the minitures. I usually find them enough for two weeks (just) and so much better for my hair. Lest not forget the hairspray either, humidity it no ones friend after all.
I love this product. Flight are notorious for causing dry lips and a good balm is key. I love this as not only is it moisturising it adds a touch of colour too giving the appearance of a full lipstick.
We all know the importance of moisturiser, especially after days in the sun or over exposure to cold elements. Rosehip oil is made without chemicals or solvents and can be used on all ages – even your little ones. It it is great for soothing sunburn and maintaining hydration and softness in skin, all in a few drops and coming in at 50ml.
Now when it comes to fragrance there is only one parfam for me, Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. I can’t bring myself to wear anything else. Whilst the bottles are often under 100ml, to save space and the risk of your not particularly cheap Chanel going missing with your suitcase ( I have lost my suitcase 3 times, really) then decanters like this are brilliant. You can decant your favourite smell into this small handbag size spray which can hold up to 100 sprays. The perfect travel companion for saving space and weight but not compromising on the content of your luggage.
Do you have any beauty travel essentials? Any must have accompaniments for your flight or getaway? I’d love to hear from you.
