A well-decorated hallway welcomes your guests to your home, introduces your style and sets the tone for the rest of the house. You may think that due to a lack of space, there isn’t much that you can do to decorate your hallway, but you just need a little inspiration!
Most homes have their stairs in the hallway, and a beautiful staircase can really make a statement. When you buy from a dedicated stair parts manufacturer, you have plenty of choice to find a style that suits your home. If your home is more traditional, an oak or iron staircase would look great. Alternatively, if you are seeking something more contemporary, go for a staircase with a glass balustrade or chrome accents. A lot of people think that transforming a staircase takes a lot of work, but as long as the structure of your stairs is in good condition, it doesn’t have to be.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to instantly update your hallway, why not go for a feature wall? You can achieve this with paint, or even keep the wall classic white, and use family photos to decorate it. If you’re artistic, why not paint a mural? You’ll be surprised at the difference one wall can make.
Artwork can make your space look more opulent and creative, and it doesn’t always have to cost the earth. You can get prints online affordably! If you’re not into art, why not go for film posters, or something else that reflects your interests.
Plants are an affordable way to update your hallway. They can be hung, go on tables or on the floor, so they’re versatile. If you’re not sure where to start, IKEA has some great plants that are easy to look after and won’t cost a bomb (in the event that you do forget to water them and they die!)
Accentuate Period Features
If you’re lucky enough to have a home with original period features, why not accentuate them? If you have mouldings, paint them so they stand out more. If you don’t have the original floor of your home, try and find some tiles from the same era. Invest in a ceiling light that shows off your original ceiling, and so on!
Rugs are another cheap way to transform your hallway. They can be used to add a splash of colour to a monochrome colour scheme, or compliment the colour of your feature wall. You could even have different colours for every season.
Use Stair Treads as Features
The treads of your stairs is the vertical bit in between the top of the step, and the step beneath. If you don’t want to transform your full staircase, try painting them a different colour, or even using a small strip of wallpaper to add pattern.
It’ll be All White
Nothing looks more stylish than a Scandi-influenced, all-white colour scheme. It’s Instagram worthy, and for good reason. The crisp white makes a great base to experiment with colour and texture. Try adding metallic accessories, or even a statement floor tile to contrast the white, and to stop it from looking too clinical.
