#MeetTheFamily…Bammboo

Hello there and welcome to the latest instalment of my series #MeetTheFamily. It is a spin off from our linky #FamilyFun. You may know that #FamilyFun is a linky where you can link up any blog post with the idea of it being a fun linky where you share your posts, comments and love with your blogging family. This post is all about getting to know our blogging family a bit better. So without further ado I will introduce you to this weeks member:

Bammboo

Beth is a regular linker at #familyfun and it always a pleasure to see her. Her posts always amaze me as she always has a great range of craft and sensory activities. So much so she has even inspired me, the not so crafty mum with some rainy day activities to keep us occupied in the house. So a big thank you to you lovey! A big thank you also for taking part in #meetthefamily, it is an absolute pleasure to have you, so over to you lovey…

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, your blog and what we can expect from your blog?
I’m Beth, I’m (just) 39 years old (eek) I’m a mum of two. My blog is bammboo.co.uk. Bamm Boo is a nickname we used for my oldest when he was little. I blog mainly about activities I do with my kids with a bit of sewing and a random poem thrown in. When E (who is now 8) was little I read lots of blog posts about activities I could do with him. My (vague) aim is record what I’m doing so we can look back on it when the kids are older and hopefully give other people some ideas too.

2. When you’re not blogging, how do you fill your time – are you a working parent, SAHP, WAHP? When you’re not working what do you like to do for fun?

At the moment I’m a stay at home mum with Little Miss who is 20 months. I’m a teacher and since becoming a mum I’ve had periods at home, periods working part-time and periods working pretty much full-time. At the moment being at home with the little one and able to do the school runs and cover sick days etc is the best option for our family.

If I’m on my own, I like to sew or create things for the kids or the house. I also watch far too much TV – I tend to get addicted to a series on Netflix and binge watch. As a family we’re trying to get more active. E. learnt to ride his bike last year and we’ve been going on family bike rides. We also like playing geeky board games!
3. How long have you been blogging and what is your favourite and least favourite thing about it?

I’ve had a blog since 2010 although there have been long periods of not writing anything. I really like to write and I think it’s a good way of keeping that part of my brain active while I’m staying at home. I love and hate the social media part of blogging. I’m generally a bit addicted to facebook so my blog gives me another reason to be permanently attached to my phone.

4. If you could pass on a piece of advice to a newbie blogger what would it be?

Read lots and write lots! If you read lots of other blogs you’ll develop a sense of what you like and what you don’t like. Then just write. I found even though I quite like the ranty sweary kind of blogs I’m really rubbish at writing them so I pretty much don’t bother ranting! Try not to get bogged down with statistics and followers – nothing is an overnight success. Also – marry a computer programmer 😉

5. If money were no issue, and you could tick one thing off your bucket list what would it be and why?

Only one? If it was really just one I’d like to travel much more with the children. We used to travel a fair bit before they came along and I definitely miss that.

6. Can you share some love and tell us what blogs you are enjoying at the moment and that you would recommend

I like http://twotinyhands.co.uk because Karen shares fab ideas and our little ones are a similar age so they are things that are easy for me to do too.
http://www.theishmother.co.uk/ I think Rebecca has a similar approach to parenting as I do so I like her ‘gentlish’ parenting ideas.

http://www.mydanglishfamily.com Thanks Josefine has awesome recipes and inspires me to actually do some baking

http://www.renegademother.com This one is a much ‘bigger’ blog I really like Janelle’s style of writing most of her posts are funny and though provoking.

Nice to discover a blogger who I hadn’t read much of before. I chuckled at the “marry a computer programmer” advice. I did … definitely an asset for a blogger! #familyfun

    • March 2, 2017 / 8:34 pm

      Absolutely – it’s a definite advantage

I also find blogging to be a great way to keep the mind growing while being a stay at home parent. Plus, since kids are never done being raised, finishing a blog post gives you a sense of accomplishment in the day. #FamilyFunLinky

Definitely! I hadn’t thought of that but you’re right. So much is half done every day – it’s good to finish something.

I love hearing about how others blog and where they get their inspiration from. I love the idea of being funny, but like Beth, I can’t always get it across right! I think sticking to informing people of things is more me. Thanks for sharing #familyfun

Nice to get to know more about you Beth. Can I trade in my OH for a computer programmer please? I could be doing with one right about now – my website is driving me crazy!

Ha ha, marrying a programmer. Why didn’t I think if that?
