#MeetTheFamily… Media Mummy

Hello there and welcome to the latest instalment of my series #MeetTheFamily. It is a spin off from our linky #FamilyFun. You may know that #FamilyFun is a linky where you can link up any blog post with the idea of it being a fun linky where you share your posts, comments and love with your blogging family. This post is all about getting to know our blogging family a bit better. So without further ado I will introduce you to this weeks member:

Media Mummy

I am so happy to have Kimberly take part in this series, Kimberly has been a regular linker with us at #familyfun and always shares interesting and engaging posts. Not to mention the media stuff is pretty fascinating too. For funnies, feels, relatable and brilliant written posts Media Mummy’s blog really is one to check out. So without further ado over you Media Mummy.

1.Tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, your blog and what we can expect from your blog?

I’m Kimberly – blogging as Media Mummy because my day job (when not just keeping small people alive) is in TV production. I’ve worked in telly since I left uni, making all kinds of ‘Factual Entertainment’ programmes – everything from Supernanny (many moons ago!), Heston Blumenthal series, Undercover Boss, and even a series teaching Dads to be good birthing partners on BBC3. My blog started when I realised my creative side needed an outlet on maternity leave, and after plenty of cheeky chats with my 3 year old that I wanted to write down and remind him of when he’s bigger (evil laugh).

2. When your not blogging, how do you fill your time – are you a working parent, SAHP, WAHP? When your not working what do you like to do for fun?

I’m currently on maternity leave from my now part-time job at a TV production company in London. TV is a demanding freelance industry so it was a struggle to find something stable after babies, so I now have a slightly different role to my old job producing and directing, and I love the balance. Outside of work, I love to dance (ballet, jazz, street, whatever!), and go for walks with my family, as long as I can wind up drinking a lovely pint of craft beer in a cosy pub. Preferably next to the fire. Oooh lovely.

3. How long have you been blogging and what is your favourite and least favourite thing about it?

I have been blogging about 3 months now and it’s brilliant fun. I love to focus my mind for half an hour away from the little people and get lost as I write. I really enjoy the social media and networking side of it, but the downside is how much time it eats into your life! The juggle of looking after children, chores, catching up with friends and all elements of blogging – writing, promoting and being active on social media is hardcore.

4. If you could pass on a piece of advice to a newbie blogger what would it be?

Try and batch write when you get a clear hour or two, and plan/take photos you need for your posts all in one go as well. It saves loads of time and admin, you feel super organised, and you’re not trying to snatch five minutes here and there to finish something off. (note to self: heed own advice).

5. If money were no issue, and you could tick one thing off your bucket list what would it be and why?

My friends will laugh themselves silly at this. Despite what I tell them, if someone paid for it, I would actually like to try skiing. I’ve never been – and mainly because I’ve just been stubborn about it as it’s SO expensive and I’m convinced I either won’t like it or I’ll be rubbish at it. Why would you spend all that money on the gamble, and then either break your leg, or hate it and not be able to afford another holiday for 4 years?!

6. Can you share some love and tell us what blogs you are enjoying at the moment and that you would recommend?

If you’ve not discovered them yet, I’d highly recommend:

Lucy at Home – my absolute fave right now. Her writing is top notch, subjects engaging and is also a thoroughly lovely person. https://lucyathome.co.uk/

Five Little Doves – Laura’s blog is always moving and inspiring. http://fivelittledoves.com/
Lucky Things – my brilliant ‘real life’ friend Sunita with a beautiful blog. www.luckythings.co.uk
Rhyming with Wine – Dawn’s rhyming skills are second to none. Watch out Julia Donaldson I say. http://www.rhymingwithwine.com/

    Hi there

good interview, totally agree with point 3 about social media taking up so much time, feels strange that you can spend more time on twitter/instagram than on your actual blog producing content.

  13. January 4, 2017 / 9:29 pm

Batch writing is part of my new schedule for this year, although I haven’t been able to put it into practice yet (starts next week!). And who doesn’t love a walk that ends at a country pub with a fire, pure heaven!

Juggling working with parenting sure is a challenge. Great to read that it’s possible and Kimberly’s found her way of doing it. I studied media at university so her blogging name resonates with me. #FamilyFun

I agree so much with the batch writing suggestion! I’ve been blogging for nearly 2 years, but have only just started doing that and it helps to keep on top of the blog posts so much :) #familyfun
