#MeetTheFamily…Babies Biscuits and Booze

Hello there and welcome to the latest instalment of my series #MeetTheFamily. It is a spin off from our linky #FamilyFun. You may know that #FamilyFun is a linky where you can link up any blog post with the idea of it being a fun linky where you share your posts, comments and love with your blogging family. This post is all about getting to know our blogging family a bit better. So without further ado I will introduce you to this weeks member:

Babies Biscuits and Booze

Babies, biscuits and booze is the wonderful blog of my blogging buddy Ellen. I have said it before and I’ll say it again she is a woman after my own heart. Babies, check, biscuits, check booze, CHECK! Having got to know Ellen I think we have lots of similarities in our outlook and on things in life in general but one thing about Ellen is she is so incredibly kind hearted and warm. She has a real way with words and can make you feel instantly better. Her blog is certainly one not to be missed, she is a talented writer who will always make you smile with her posts.

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, your blog and what we can expect from your blog?

I’m Ellen, a 26 year old mum to one little guy. I blog at Babies, biscuits and booze about being a parent, mostly. It’s pretty lighthearted in the main and is a mix of jokey posts highlighting the not so fun aspects of being a mum & soppy posts about how brilliant it is!

  1. When you’re not blogging, how do you fill your time – are you a working parent, SAHP, WAHP? When you’re not working what do you like to do for fun?

I finished maternity leave recently and I work for my husband’s family business. My father in law is teaching me some of the admin and bookkeeping skills at the moment and I am able to fit it around my husband and son and be totally flexible – it’s ideal! I love reading so if I get the chance you’ll find me with my head in a book. Me and B, my husband, both have big, close families so a lot of our spare time is spent seeing them. I try and get to the theatre every few months and we love eating (and drinking) out, but obviously don’t do that quite so often these days.

  1. How long have you been blogging and what is your favourite and least favourite thing about it?

I’ve been blogging since February although still feel like a total newbie. I love writing, obviously, but my favourite thing is probably the supportive nature of the blogging community and the friends I’ve made. It’s been wonderful to make so many genuine connections. My least favourite thing… well, to be honest I ignore it most of the time but I find stats and SEO and all that so bloody boring. I can’t bring myself to care or actually work on those things so I am destined to have a teeny readership forever!

  1. If you could pass on a piece of advice to a newbie blogger what would it be?

Just write what you want to write about. Try not to force it or worry about posting every day if there isn’t anything interesting to say. Don’t worry about trends or what other people are doing. I say that but I’ve already confessed that I haven’t got a clue how to grow a blog, maybe don’t listen to me! One thing that will help anyone is to make friends – a tribe as everyone likes to say – support others, read loads of blogs and be receptive to people. Always be kind and polite (that’s life advice really) as you never know when opportunities may come knocking.

  1. If money were no issue, and you could tick one thing off your bucket list what would it be and why?

Ohh this is a tricky one. Honestly I am pretty happy with my life and the things I am able to do. I’d love to go to Australia to see friends but it’s not just money stopping me, it’s the 24 hour flight! I guess I could hire someone to look after the baby though, if money was no issue – so yeah – maybe that! I wouldn’t mind a bigger house, too. 😂

  1. Can you share some love and tell us what blogs you are enjoying at the moment and that you would recommend?

Oh there are so many!! I adore Mouse, Moo & Me too – she makes me laugh and cry and keeps me fully engaged with every post. Her writing is amazing. I love Five Little Doves as I am always moved by Laura’s writing and her storytelling is fab. And Dawn at Rhyming with wine is AMAZING, her rhymes are so clever.

Helloooo Ellen! I love your advice about being kind and polite – something that people can forget in the blogging world (and in the real world too), but I always find that the blogs I like the most are the ones written by people seem…well, nice. :) I also agree that people should just write what they want to write without worrying too much about stats – you can always tell when a blogger genuinely loves what they’re writing about. #FamilyFun

Ah fab advice. I’m always seeing things about stats and SEO and I don’t really have a clue when it comes to them.. Maybe I’ll look into it one of these days. Lovely post!

I love finding new blogs to read wish I had more hours in the day though as there are so many brilliant ones. Great advice for newbies Ellen and I agree about Australia you wouldn’t get me on a plane for that length of time ! #FamilyFun

I love to find out about the people behind the blogs I read. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia too. I have (distant) family over there and it’d be lovely to see them again… plus all the sunny weather and scenery, etc! #FamilyFun

I really enjoyed reading this. I like your advice about just writing what you want. I do like promoting my blog and get excited by stats, but I started mine because of the writing and am trying not to let obsession over stats discourage me from continuing! #familyfun

Lovely post. This is such a great series. Great advice for neebies like myself, I often feel guilty that I don’t post enough but at the moment the hubby is home (works away 10 weeks at a time) and I’m prioritising evenings with him x

Hi Ellen! (waves!!) This is a great idea for a series, it’s good to get to meet the people behind the blogs and find more blogs to read. I’ve found you on twitter and read some of your posts so I will be back to bookmark and add you to my list! I agree about writing what you want. I was stressed out about not posting every day or every other day but quite frankly I haven’t got the time, and I am just hoping my blog will grow slowly over time! Here’s hoping!!!

I love posts like this. I find stats and SEO stuff boring too (probably because I don’t understand a lot of it!). I like Ellen’s advice about writing what you want to write and not forcing it – I really admire people who manage to post every day, as I sometimes struggle with once a week! #familyfun

Oh Ellen is an absolute darling, I’m chuffed to call her a friend and if you’re reading this Ed, thank you for the mention! Right back at you. Loving this series xx

I really enjoyed reading about Ellen. I totally agree about the supportive nature of the blogging community, although it really depends on the community too. As in, I’ve tried to participate in a few that no one really cared about or followed through so those were disappointments. Mostly though, I have to say, people are really nice, supportive, write comments (don’t we all love those!), and provide advice even “offline” through emails and such. I have read a few of Ellen’s posts and always liked them. Thanks for featuring her. #familyfun
