#MeetTheFamily…The Squirmy Popple

laptop and shades

Hello there and welcome to the latest instalment of my series #MeetTheFamily. It is a spin off from our linky #FamilyFun. You may know that #FamilyFun is a linky where you can link up any blog post with the idea of it being a fun linky where you share your posts, comments and love with your blogging family. This post is all about getting to know our blogging family a bit better. So without further ado I will introduce you to this weeks member:

The Squirmy Popple

I first ‘met’ Katie a good few months back in the early day of #tribalchat, look it up (seriously). I have since become a huge fan of Katie’s blog, and Katie. She is an intelligent, witty, and engaging writer who will leave you wanting more. Her blog is full of funnies and relatable mummy tales that will have you nodding along. If you haven’t already I would urge you to check out her blog as it really does make for brilliant reading.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, your blog and what we can expect from your blog?

I’m Katie, a 30-something mum to tiny, adorable beast of a toddler. I live in Glasgow with said toddler (nicknamed The Popple), my husband Adrian and our a-hole of a cat, Milo. My blog, The Squirmy Popple, is my account of the (mostly) funny side of being a newish parent.

2. When you’re not blogging, how do you fill your time – are you a working parent, SAHP, WAHP? When your not working what do you like to do for fun?

I work 4.5 days a week as a digital content designer, which basically means that I write stuff for websites, mostly about the technology industry in Scotland these days. Add blogging into the mix, and I basically spend an average of 12 hours a day in front of a computer screen.

When I’m not working, I like to read (if I can stay awake long enough), watch teen dramas (the more ridiculous, the better) and travel (a bit challenging with a wee one in tow, but I have itchy feet that need to be scratched).

3. How long have you been blogging and what is your favourite and least favourite thing about it?

I started my first blog 10 years ago, back in the simple days before social media and linkys and Tots 100, but The Squirmy Popple has been going since July 2015.

My favourite thing about blogging is that it gives me a reason to write and the motivation to do it. I’ve always loved writing, and now I have an excuse to do it every day. My least favourite thing? Self-promotion. It’s such a big part of blogging these days, but I hate talking about myself. I’m not the kind of person who would shout, “HEY, LOOK OVER HERE!” in real life, but I’m expected to do that virtually if I want my blog to be successful. Ughhhhhh.

4. If you could pass on a piece of advice to a newbie blogger what would it be?

Be social. I’m anti-social by nature, but I found that chatting with people on Twitter (helloooo #tribalchat!), commenting on people’s blogs and joining Facebook groups helped me find lots of smart, funny, helpful bloggers who I would never have ‘met’ otherwise. Don’t be afraid to say a virtual hello to a complete stranger – that’s what this whole blogging thing is all about.

5. If money were no issue, and you could tick one thing off your bucket list what would it be and why?

Travel around the world because I want to see EVERYTHING. Attempting it with a toddler would be…interesting, though.

6. Can you share some love and tell us what blogs you are enjoying at the moment and that you would recommend?

There are so many great ones, but I’ll give a shout out to Mouse, Moo and Me Too and The Parenting Jungle, because they’re super clever writers who can both make me laugh and have all the feels.

Thanks for sharing. I’m a newbie and I definitely struggle with the whole self promotion thing but if I want to at least attempt to be a blogger I know i have to be more social. Thank you for the advice!

I loved reading this post! Its always great to find out more about other bloggers. I find it so hard to do the social bit even though its the bit I love the most – engaging and actually interacting with other bloggers. Its just so hard to find the time alongside all the linkies, blogging and day to day life! Must. Make. More. Effort! 😉 Emily #FamilyFun

Lovely to find out a bit more about Katie behind the Squirmy Popple. I like that she admits to being anti-social by nature but has found being sociable in the blogging community hugely valuable – I feel the same xx #FamilyFun

Self promotion is the worst! Your right though, I’ve met so many great bloggers by stepping out of my comfort zone. You logo is adorable, by the way!
