For my Christmas present last year Mr TM really upped his game, big time. He brought me a day long Spa voucher, it was not any old spa voucher but one that entitled me to full use of the spa (obvs) the new Fire and Ice experience, afternoon tea and a treatment. This was a full day of relaxation and quiet with no snotty noses in sight, it was the gift that kept on giving. As the title suggests the voucher was for The Belfry. The Belfry is a fabulous hotel, restaurant, golf course, spa and leisure club that is conveniently 10 minutes drive from our house, it is set in secluded grounds with amazing buildings and beautifully kept gardens. I must say The Belfry is very plush, the changing rooms alone were a far cry from the council run gym I belonged to as a student.
It was the strangest thing, when I first got there I almost felt nervous, I was out on my own – no babies to hide behind. I have of course been out by myself in the last two years but this was different, this wasn’t popping to the shop or dentist or a prosecco filled lunch with my bestie, but a day just with myself. It was surreal and I didn’t know what to do with myself. So I pulled up my big girl pants and motored on past the über loud spin class (which I so wanted to join) and headed on through into the fancy changing rooms, to start my day of me. Wow, You could not move for Luis Vuitton leisure luggage, I think it may have been a membership requirement, thank god I didn’t bring my bag for life eh. But me and my (airport won) YSL bag nervously edged in amongst the club members and donned are swim wear to hit the spa.
My first stop was the Fire and Ice experience. Don’t know what this is? No neither did I. It is essentially a circular corridor with different hot and cold relaxation rooms. Everything was an -arium caladium, sanarium , giant bath with really strong jets arium (more commonly known as the hydrotherapy pool). It also homed a sauna, igloo, foot spa, conservatory, eucalyptus infused crystal steam room, the dreaded cold water bucket you tip on yourself to close those pesky pores and a dark room with ridiculously comfy loungers.
You do what sorry? Sit?
So I began my circuit of hot and cold rooms, truth be told it took me a little while to re-lax. I probably sit for, on average, 4.5 seconds a day during the hours of 7-7, my two under two make sure of that. So there I was, sat, just sat in a really hot wooden room. Hmm. What now?…*looks at watch*… ok it’s been 90 seconds, right. Still sitting… *looks around*… Still sitting. *drums fingers on wooden bench*... Still sitting. …*looks at watch*… 2 minutes 30 seconds…*taps foot*…. Still sitting. You get the idea. My body wanted to jump up and move, to do something (something always needs doing), it went against all instincts just to sit and do nothing. But hey, I got there. A few rooms in and I had this sitting and doing nothing DOWN, I bossed it. My mind probably did over drive but I did it from the comfort of a Perfectly temperatured darkened room, whilst LED DOWN, with no babies jumping on me. All in all the fire and ice experience was great, I loved every room. Sadly the aroma room was out-of-order on my visit, a real shame as who doesn’t love a good aroma. The pool was also a decent size, several fab jacuzzis and again more comfy loungers to relax on in the main leisure area.
Following my morning session I was booked in for my treatment at 12pm. I opted for a Swedish Massage, try saying that quickly, just me? I did arrive a little earlier and was shown through to a relaxation room (yes another, there’s a theme here). I don’t know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t what greeted me. I walked into a dimly lit room filled with velvet corner sofas, giant arm chairs and multiple chaise longues behind jewelled curtains. Yes I have made it sound like a bit of Moulin Rouge boudoir and yes perhaps it was a little, but ultimately it was the best bloody room I have seen in a while. It was peaceful, tasteful, quiet and oh so comfortable. It was such a serene and tranquil environment you couldn’t help but relax.
The treatment that followed was, as you imagine, heavenly. A full body massage with extra attention on my doubled over back, with beautifully smelling oils and just the right pressure. Also how amazing are those massage beds? It was 50 minutes of pure bliss. I think I became so relaxed my over active brain even slowed almost to a halt. I did not want it to end.
Relax with a cuppa, obviously
But fear not its end saw the start of my afternoon tea, all this relaxing did work up an appetite. In my previous life, dining alone would have bothered me, I would have felt self-conscious and on display. Now I quite honestly could not give two hoots. I sat proudly on my own, well kind of, I had the security of my iPad and my blog for company. I ate and drank at my own pace and lost myself to the blogging world, for several hours, something I rarely get the opportunity to do at home. Afternoon tea was nice, although I always want more sandwiches than offered (I think sandwiches are one of my favourite foods, me and Joey from friends would certainly get on well), the cakes were lovely, macaroons a little two sweet, but I think that juts me and one of the scones a little dry, but when lathered with the heart stopping amount of cream I applied you would never have known.
Afternoon tea was rounded up with another quick visit to the treatment rooms, where I had my nails done. Again the decor, atmosphere, the staff, everything was just devine and peaceful, you couldnt help but feel comfortable. I found myself looking round on numerous occasions at the people partaking in the spa. Was this just another day in the office for them? Or were they too on a special allowed out of the house day? Well if it’s the first, boy do I want that office job.
All in all my day at the Belfry was quite literally amazing. I always think when considering or reviewing a purchase or an experience would I, 1. Pay actual money for it 2. Do it again? 3. Recommend someone else part with their actual hard-earned money for the same thing. Well in this instance yes, yes and yes. If you are in the West Midlands area and looking for the perfect spa day or just day out (or night) in general this would a great place to start. So much so Mr TM and I are looking to get a child free night to dine there (incident ally there is also a nightclub on site) and have been looking into joining the gym and leisure club as members, once we have purchased the appropriate Louis Vuitton luggage of course, it is after all in our doorstep, it is just whether we will get the use out of it with priorities…the babies.
So MR TM, ya did good. This was an excellent Christmas present that meant so very much to me. I enjoyed every second, thank you so very much.
Also keep an eye out for the vouchers and offers they have, some excellent value for money.
This was not a sponsored post, I just had a bloody good day, can you tell?
